I'm an artist and illustrator based in South London.
Drawing and painting on location is what I love to do. Most of my pictures are made completely on site sitting with a stool and drawing board trying to capture what is directly in front of me. I like to make decisions about what to add and edit on the go.
For illustrations, often I like to make sketchbook drawings from life - using this as reference material later.
I am particularly inspired by London. The energy and changing nature of the city are both things that I find really interesting. Street furniture, passing vehicles and people often feel like a necessary part of making a scene feel true to life.
I find watercolours are a great medium for using outdoors - you can paint bright and translucent colours quickly, but also take time for describing details. The variation of line you can get with a dip pen and ink is something I have always found really appealing. Recently I've begun to work with other media including collage, wax, gouache and oil pastel and find the different textures you can create with these very inspiring to use.
